I had an absolutely wonderful time reading for New South and Georgia State University’s Creative Writing program last week in Atlanta, Georgia. The graduate students treated me to some nice beers at The Porter before the reading, and my good friend and former teacher and mentor, Josh Russell, took me out to some fine, fine beers after the reading.

The summation of this being: the good folks in Atlanta/Decatur really enjoy fine drink and food, and they were kind and gentle with me, and I would happily return to read any time!

I read one of my saddest Scandamericans, “O Sweet One in the Bluff.” The audience asked some great questions, and I strained to answer thoughtfully. My best moment, surely, was when one of the audience members asked me how I know when to end a story, and I said that I know I’m done when I start to cry.
